Study Reveals Things Men Should Do to Stand Out with Women

A new study reveals the personal actions men can take to stand out with their dream women.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The study reveals that women’s preferences for men’s faces are influenced by the emotions displayed. Specifically, when men with more masculine faces exhibit happiness, they are perceived as more attractive by women.
  • Traditionally, manly faces were thought to signal good health, but this study suggests that a happy expression balances out the toughness associated with masculine features, making them more appealing.
  • The researchers conducted three experiments. The first showed that both manly male and female faces appeared angrier, while feminine faces seemed happier. The second indicated a link between looking tough and looking angry. The third demonstrated that women were more open to manly features, especially when paired with a happy expression.
  • Women favored less feminine (or more manly) faces, particularly when the men looked happy. This suggests that a combination of toughness and a positive, happy expression is attractive to women.
  • The study’s participants were mainly white and heterosexual, limiting the generalizability of the results. Additionally, computer-generated faces were used, raising questions about how well these findings reflect real-life preferences.

So, there’s this new research from Portugal that talks about how women see men’s faces. They found that women’s preferences for guys’ faces are influenced by the emotions they show.

The study says that when men have more manly faces and look happy, they seem more attractive to women. This is interesting because before, people thought manly faces were attractive to show the guy is healthy.

But this study says that when men look happy, it kinda balances out the tough look.

To figure this out, the researchers did three experiments. In the first one, 75 people looked at faces, some more manly and some more feminine.

They had to decide if the faces looked angry or happy. The results showed that manly faces, whether on men or women, seemed angrier, and feminine faces seemed happier.

The second experiment had 35 women looked at male faces showing different emotions. Angry faces were rated as more manly compared to happy or neutral faces. This suggests that people link looking tough with looking angry.

Now, in the third experiment, 84 women looked at male faces that were made to look more or less manly. Even though women generally preferred less manly faces, this changed when the faces looked happy.

Women were more open to manly features in happy faces, possibly because happiness balanced out the toughness

The cool part? Women liked less feminine (or more manly) faces, especially when the men looked happy. It’s like saying, “Hey, he looks tough, but he’s happy, so that’s attractive.”

But, of course, there are some things to keep in mind. The people in the study were mostly white and straight, so this might not be the same for everyone.

And they used computer-made faces, not real ones, so it’s not exactly like looking at real people.

Women might find guys more attractive when they have manly features but look happy. The study suggests that emotions play a role in how women perceive masculinity in men’s faces.

However, there’s still more to explore, and these findings might not apply to everyone.

Ways Not To Misjudge A Woman’s Intentions

Keep the Conversation Open – Make sure you are talking openly and honestly. Instead of guessing, ask questions and really listen to what she’s saying. Clear communication is key to avoiding mix-ups.

Forget about relying on stereotypes or preconceived ideas. Everyone is different, so assuming things about someone based on stereotypes can lead to misunderstandings.

More importantly, think about the situation carefully. This is because people act differently in different situations. Consider where you are and what’s going on to better understand her actions.

Something that seems unclear in one situation might be more obvious in another.

Put Yourself in Her Shoes – Try to see things from her point of view. Think about her feelings, experiences and reasons for doing things. This can help you get why she’s doing what she’s doing.

Be aware of her personal boundaries and pay attention to signals. If she seems uncomfortable or sets limits, respect them. Ignoring boundaries can lead to misunderstandings.

More importantly, don’t jump to thinking everything is romantic. Women, like anyone else have different relationships without it being romantic. Respect her choices and connections.

Ask if You are Unsure – If you are not sure what she’s thinking, just ask. Politely get her perspective or intentions without being confrontational. It’s a respectful way to clear things up.

Understand Different Cultures – Be aware of cultural differences. Different cultures have different ways of communicating, so understanding these differences can prevent misunderstandings.

Also, resist the urge to guess what she’s thinking. Instead of assuming, talk openly and really listen to understand her thoughts.

More so, think about any biases you might have. Being aware of and challenging these biases helps you make more accurate judgments about her intentions.

Give Her the Benefit of the Doubt – When in doubt, give her a break. Avoid making quick assumptions and consider other reasons for her behavior.

While at it, don’t forget to pay attention to cues. Watch for both what she says and how she acts. Pay attention to her expressions, tone, and body language to understand what she might be thinking.

Respect Differences -Respecting differences is about recognizing that people communicate differently because of their unique perspectives and backgrounds.

What’s totally clear to one person might not be so obvious to someone else.

It’s all about appreciating these diverse ways of expressing ourselves and creating an environment where everyone’s communication style is acknowledged and valued.

This not only prevents misunderstandings but also encourages inclusive and considerate interactions in various social situations.

Skip the over-analysis – Sometimes, taking things at face value is better than reading too much into every little detail. If you’re really unsure, ask friends for their thoughts.

Just be respectful and considerate of everyone’s privacy when seeking advice.

However, this research published in Evolutionary Human Sciences tells us that women might find men more attractive when they have tough faces but look happy. It’s a bit like saying, “He’s strong, but he’s also got a friendly vibe.”
